
HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Police have arrested an Iranian national on alleged drug trafficking charge, an official said on Thursday.
Police spokesman Abdul Ahad Walizada told Pajhwok Afghan News the Iranian national was arrested in Islam Qala locality for smuggling six kilograms of crystal, an improvised brand of drug.
“The arrested smuggler is the driver of a truck and had placed the drugs cleverly in bottles of fruit juice.”
The detained Iranian national has been referred to the authorities conceed for further investigation.
Last month, 21 Iranians held in Afghanistan
were extradited under an agreement between the two countries.

SAR-I-PUL (Pajhwok): Taliban militants once again captured Mirzawlang valley in northe Sar-i-Pul province after a clash with security forces on Thursday night, a public representative said Friday.
Mohammad Noor Rahmani, head of the provincial council, told Pajhwok Afghan News the insurgents captured three security posts in the valley during last night’s clash.
He waed the Taliban would capture nearby Sayyad district if their advance was not curtailed.
A security official, who declined to be named, told Pajhwok that one Afghan local police member was killed and two others wounded in the clash. He confirmed national and local police lost some posts to the rebels in Mirzawlang.
Sar-i-Pul police chief Khalilullah said seven Taliban fighters were killed and five others wounded during the clash in Mirzawlang valley.
He said two uprising members were wounded in the attack and termed the security forces’ retreat from the area as “tactical.” The police chief said security forces were working on a plan to recapture the area.
The Taliban, who recently refused to attend peace talks with Afghan officials in Oman, have said nothing in this regard so far.
The rebels previously captured Mirzawlang valley about two months ago, causing casualties to a large number of civilians.

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Representatives from 17 countries and inteational organizations attended the sixth round of talks --- this time aimed at enhancing cooperation among regional security forces --- in weste Herat province on Friday.On the sidelines of the meeting in Herat City, Daud Muradyan, head of the Afghanistan Strategic Studies office, told reporters that representatives from the US, the UK, France, Holland, Egypt, Turkey, India, Pakistan, Iran, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan and inteational organizations were taking part in the huddle.
He said the meeting was aimed at enhancing Afghan security forces’ cooperation with security forces of regional countries. He said no meeting on strengthening security cooperation between security forces of regional countries had taken place in recent years.
Muradyan also criticized the Afghan govement’s peace policy for giving much chance to Pakistan in, saying the fact was that Afghanistan currently held the keys to peace.
Acting Afghan Interior Minister Wais Ahmad Barmak said today’s meeting was important because regional countries had realized that peace in Afghanistan was in their interest.
He said though the security situation in Herat province had improved, yet officials committing negligence or corruption would be dismissed.
The minister said it was a matter of conce that the Taliban were able to wrest back some areas they were driven from as a result of security operations.

LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Govement officials in southe Helmand province on Friday declared as successful ongoing security operations in and near Lashkargah, the provincial capital.
Omar Zwak, the goveor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the joint forces’ operation was launched yesterday in Babaji area of Lashkargah and Nad Ali and Marja districts.
He said so far 18 Taliban militants had suffered casualties during the operations that resulted in the seizure of weapons and ammunition as well. He said so far four security persoel had been injured during the raids.
A police official said the Taliban had been unable to put up resistance due to airstrikes.
However, a Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousaf Ahmadi, said the fighters had blocked the security forces from advancing.
He said the govement forces were also inflicted heavy casualties during clashes in Sangin and Nawa districts.

MAIMANA (Pajhwok): A man shot dead his mother and brother in law over their alleged sexual relationship in Ghormach district of northe Faryab province, an official said on Friday.
The security official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Mahmood, a resident of Sharshar area of Ghormach district, had “illicit relationship” with his mother in law.
He said the killer, Anar, had seen the two together.
Ghormach district chief Asal Khan also confirmed the incident but said they could not investigate it because Taliban
were in control there.
The Taliban captured Ghormach district about two months ago.
